In 2007, James thought he had the perfect life: a good job, a beautiful home in Auckland, a growing family, and all the comforts of success. He worked as a Manufacturing Process Engineer for a global company and embraced the Kiwi lifestyle—shorter working days, stunning beaches, and weekends spent jet-skiing. Life, it seemed, couldn’t get any better.

But when a trusted friend defrauded him out of $200,000, everything changed. As legal battles dragged on and stress took its toll, James found himself caught in a dark chapter that nearly derailed his future. Then came the second blow—his company went through a major restructure and laid off 40 staff. Unfortunately, James was one of them.

“It was like being thrown into freezing water,” he recalls.

Faced with the possibility of losing his home and needing to support his family without relying on another employer, James knew he had to act. That’s when he discovered a financial path forward through property investment.
In 2007, James Goren had it all—an engineering job, a beautiful home in Auckland, and a growing family. But life took a sharp turn when a friend defrauded him of $200,000. Soon after, he lost his job in a company restructure. Facing financial ruin, James knew he had to act.

To put his knowledge into practice, he started to purchased a properties and used it as a live project—refining layouts, making targeted upgrades, and applying a step-by-step, engineering-style renovation plan. The results were extraordinary. He was able to boost the property’s value by 30% to 50%, in just a few weeks so he can re finance it and buy the next property.

Other investors were stunned: “How does James Goren add so much value, so fast?” Word spread. His name became known in property circles, and other investors began asking for his help. What started with one favour quickly grew into multiple projects. And that’s how The Renovation Team was born.

    Project manager

    Graduated in 2006 as mechatronics engineer, worked in oil and gas, and geothermal power plants for 10 years before calling it quits in 2015 and took early retirement.

    Currently focused working on his passion in the residential housing industry.

    He has been investing since 2006 and has bought wide varieties of investment properties to add values by reconfiguring specs as well as new builds.

    Has subject matter expertise on areas to invest, adding value and future growth potentials in Auckland. His knowledge is applied to get the most for our customers at Bayview to ensure solid steps for first home buyers and investors.

    Project coordinator
    Pam developed a personal interest in property improvement while managing the renovations of her previous homes.
    She contracted the services of The Renovation Team while renovating her current house, and subsequently decided to join the Team as Project Coordinator.
    She handles many of the daily tasks of working closely with our procurement partners, customers and tradies.
    Pam utilises skills gained from her degree from The University of Auckland, including developing detailed project schedules to ensure that renovations run smoothly.
    She ensures everything is efficiently communicated and coordinated, making the renovation process an enjoyable experience for everyone involved.

    Raised in a family of developers, from her grandfather to her father Karin was fascinated by property from an early age.She took on architecture studies at the age of 21 and interior design. With a few projects under her sleeves, shifting to marketing and sales, karin always knew that one day she would be back into it.

    Karin is a philanthropic, the Co-founder of the iconic fundraiser Paddle For Hope and a motivational speaker. She has been a Real Estate recruiter for the past two years and has been engaging with people in the industry on a daily basis. "She believed she could so she did " is her motivation. Karin is all about great service and carries a big smile.
